Operation SIRIUS - 2004

Canadian Forces (CF) personnel were deployed to Sigonella, Italy as part of Operation SIRIUS, Canada's participation in a NATO Campaign Against Terrorism mission known as Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR. Its tasks included monitoring and surveillance of activity at sea, hailing ships, and tracking contacts of interest.

Operation SIRIUS began in mid-October 2004 and ended in mid-December 2004. At that time, Operation SIRIUS comprised over 65 CF air force personnel and two CP-140 Aurora maritime patrol aircraft. The aircrews, support personnel, and aircraft were from 405 and 415 Maritime Patrol Squadrons at 14 Wing Greenwood, N.S., and 407 Maritime Patrol Squadron at 19 Wing Comox, B.C.
